LANGPORT VINTAGE MARKET

I'm off to Somerset this Saturday for the Langport Vintage Market!!!

Or should I say, 'Smiling Somerset' ... according to this vintage guidebook!!

I haven't done this brilliant market since that pesky virus kicked in, so it'll be amazing to be back there.

Run along to Langport this Saturday and check it out.

I'll be tucked away in the Undercroft, the lovely arched building across the road!

See you there!

1920s CORNWALL PHOTO ALBUM

One of the many things I'm selling on Facebook Marketplace is this gorgeous photo album.

With its gorgeous Art Deco 'Sunny Memories' cover, it has over 100 photos of snaps taken on a holiday in Cornwall in the 1920s.

The photos are absolutely packed with an atmospheric charm, with what looks like a largely empty and untouched Cornwall all to themselves.

Each individual page can be separated to reveal how the photos were originally placed and stuck down in the album, which I love!

You can also see that some of the photos are actually postcards that have been cut up to fit the different shapes on the pages.

Of course every photo album is individual, but this one has a special feel about it.

Please check it out on Facebook HERE if you fancy owning it.

ARTPIX UPDATE!

Sorry, I've been painfully inconsistent with my blogs and posts this year.

So here is a small update of whats been happening, or about to happen!

Last weekend in glorious sunshine I was at the Giant Shepton Flea, which is always a great event. Only trouble was, the sunshine was so glorious, that not many punters turned up, as they either headed for the beach, or couldn't face wandering around a field in very hot conditions!!!

The weather has been a bit of a theme recently ...

I couldn't do last month's Bridport Vintage Market, as the forecast was for heavy showers. Only to be told later that, apart from one shower, it was gorgeous weather all day!!!

And so to next Sunday's market, guess what the forecast is saying??

Yup, heavy showers ....

So do I chance it and go, or stay at home and regret it later??!!

Watch this space!!!

Very pleased to announce that I'll be back at the Langport Vintage Market on 31st July.

I did a few of these pre-Covid, and they were brilliant, so I'm really looking forward to being back there.

I've bagged an undercover pitch as well, so at least I don't have to monitor the weather forecast quite so much!

Have been working on many upcycling and restoration projects, mostly bits of small Mid-Century furniture.

Is very satisfying to bring these things back to life, and I often keep them as original as possible.

One reason being, I absolutely loath vintage furniture being painted grey!!!!!

The next issue of my digital magazine ARTPIX has completely stalled ... !

BUT!! I plan on picking it up again in September.

The basic design had been done, but I needed to write the blimmin thing, which was why I lost all faith in it. The first issue did cause a ripple of interest, so I do need to get cracking on it again!

I'll update on progress, and may sneak in a few previews!!!

Plans for a shop/unit have also stalled.

I've long hoped to have my own space to do what I want in, but...

Covid being the first obvious reason, but also a lack of any options in a reasonable distance from ArtPix Towers. Is still on the backburner though.

I do, however, have my very successful unit in The Customs House emporium down on West Bay seafront in Dorset.

Sales have been flying this year, which has been a massive boost to the coffers and the confidence.

I also sell on the Facebook Marketplace, which is an excellent way for selling vintage items.

Do please check me out on there.

That's it for now!

I know blogs are the last thing people can be bothered to read, but as a very small independent trader, these are still vital platforms to get our stuff out there and our voices heard.

So thank you to my loyal band of followers!!!!

DARE TO BELIEVE?!

Finally we are having a bit of Summer weather!!!!

Which means it could actually be dry and sunny for next Sunday's GIANT SHEPTON FLEA MARKET!!!!

Can't wait to load up the van and get cracking again, after such a stop start year.

So come on down to the Bath & West Showground in Somerset this Sunday and get shopping!!

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS AGAIN ...

After yet another calamitous ArtPix weekend, where the weather and events in north London ruined everything, once more I have to pull myself together and start again.

The weather is playing a huge factor this year in stopping me doing boot fairs and vintage markets, isn't it supposed to be summer now???!!!

It actually has a very serious impact on the likelihood of me, and other vintage traders, actually making a living.

So maybe, just maybe, for once, the weather may actually be ok for next Sunday's Giant Shepton Flea.

BABBLE ON AN' TING

Absolutely loving reading this book about Alex Paterson of The Orb, and his incredible musical and personal journey.

Anyone who knows anything about music must surely have come across The Orb at some point.

I first heard them by chance on John Peel with the incredible A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules from the Centre of the Ultraworld, must have been late 1989, early 1990(?), and quickly getting a tape out to record it!!!

From that moment I was hooked ...

From creating the genre of Ambient House, Alex, and his many contributors, have since made some of the most amazing and original music ever produced.

The book, written by music journalist, friend and collaborator, Kris Needs charts this complex story, and is handily filling in all the gaps from Alex's career.

From half-remembered interviews and things I thought I knew about, I'm now getting the full story of such things as Alex's long-term connection with Killing Joke, what happened with Jimmy Cauty of the KLF, his many projects with Youth, and how he met up and connected with Thomas Fehlmann, plus much, much more!

Kris Needs' astonishing knowledge of music is proving one of the highlights of the book as well, he is also able to pinpoint many, if not all, of Alex's huge amount of samples that are used to create The Orb's music.

Orb is the ultimate chill out music, but can also be laced with huge lashings of thumping beats, and very British humour.

Buy this book and have your own adventures beyond the Ultraworld ...

I also got a CD with my book, and it was signed by Alex. Enjoy!!!
