(I did want to put a Halloween picture here, but it won't load, so instead of sitting here all night, I won't.

ART DECO THEATRE WORLD CABINET

One of my first ever upcycling projects was taking a fairly ordinary 1930s cabinet, and turning it into an Art Deco gem!!

I painted it black, and decorated it with a collage of original pages from 1930s Theatre World magazines.

It features a host of stage stars of the era, including Laurence Olivier and Flora Robson.

I also lined the inside of the cupboard with more pages of the vintage magazines.

Now the cabinet is up for sale on the Facebook Marketplace.

78s FOR SALE!

After a successful week selling loads on the Facebook Marketplace, I've put up a small collection of 78rpm records.

They have a real charm about them, and are mostly from the 1930s and 40s, although one goes back to 1926. Loads have the classic HMV His Master's Voice label, with the dog and the gramophone!

There are 19 in total, and they are going for just a tenner.

1960s BEN CHAIRS FOR SALE!!

I'm selling four of these iconic chairs for the ludicrously low price of £100 ...

Yep, only 25 quid per chair!!

There is a bit of a space issue at ArtPix Towers these days ...

Because I haven't been able to do any vintage and salvage fairs this year, I can't sell my bigger items, meaning I'm swamped with stock.

And online sales have been slow to say the very least.

Shifting these would be a big help!!

Have a peep HERE for the listing on the Facebook Marketplace.

And then please buy them!!!!!!

They even featured in my ARTPIX magazine!

1930s FILM CASTING PHOTO

I have here an amazing original 1930s photograph used for film casting.

There is an air of mystery about the photo, as unfortunately I don't know who the actress is, and the company and its address on the back are proving elusive.

The company named is Sandseer, and there is nothing to be found online about them.

I presume it was a photographic studio, where casting agencies would send actors to be photographed for portfolios, which would be used by film studios when looking for actors.

And the address is odd as well ... given as Brown's Arcade, 92 Regent Street, London W1.

The is no modern reference to Brown's Arcade, and 92 Regent Street is just a shop front similar to all the others down there. I did wonder whether it was actually the refurbished Quadrant Arcade, as that is the only Arcade in Regent Street. But it's along the road a bit, and doesn't tally with the number 92.

Hmmm, all very strange!!

Oh well, I thought the photo deserved a bit of colour added, as it looks like an outfit for a day down the beach on a summer holiday!

TIMES NEWSPAPER REDESIGN 1966

I've got here two papers from a significant moment in the history of The Times newspaper.

The redesign of their masthead and cover.

The Times had begun life in 1785, and for most of the time since then, had retained the same format on its front cover.

Endless rows of small advertisements in the tiniest print possible, seemingly ignoring any attempts at modernity.

The very last time they had this style was Monday May 2nd, 1966.

The following day on May 3rd, they unveiled a completely new look ...

Gone was the old-fashioned masthead, replaced with just a clear bold font, and instead of rows of unreadable text, they finally had the news headlines and a photograph on the cover.

There doesn't appear to be any explanation as to why they did it, although the paper's ownership had just changed hands, so presumably the new owner wanted a fresh approach.

As with any old newspapers they make fascinating reading, especially given the context of the times they were from.

Right bang in the middle of the Swinging Sixties, with England's triumphant World Cup campaign about to start in a couple of months time. Groovy!

I'm selling these through the Facebook Marketplace, so have a peep HERE

They are £15, with postage & packing absolutely FREE!!

If you are lucky enough to live on Portland in Dorset, I'm offering FREE delivery!!!

ARTPIX MAGAZINE – AN UPDATE!

Earlier this year, I spent the lockdown weeks in a flurry of creativity, starting my ARTPIX magazine, and publishing (online!), my first issue.

There was a glimmer of interest in it from people, and I got to work straight away on the next issue.

But then the reality kicked in ...

The mag is an awful lot of work, for absolutely no gain!!!

I had to be brutal and put it on the back burner, as I needed to focus on actually selling things and earning some money. But now the season is already over, and I never make any money in the run-up to Xmas, I've dug out my page plan for Issue 2, and have started to think about it again.

I'd already designed a few pages of it, so I'm up and running.

The creating and designing bit is easy for me, it's just the writing that takes me ages!!

So hopefully it won't be too long before Issue 2 will be ready ...

(Although according to our lovely Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, we should destroy all creatives and go and get a PROPER job ...

Hey, Rishi my old mate, I did a creative job in London for 27 years, does that count???)

Please have a read of the first issue, HERE
